It’s Okay to Not Fully Understand “Being Woke”

I will be honest. When it comes to fully understanding the movements that’s been going on, the trending topics that are going on with “Black Twitter” and this damn election there is a lot I don’t fully understand. I came to the conclusion that it’s not something to be embarrassed about. I have a good friend that I text with often and she once told me she wishes I would talk more about things that are going on in our culture rather than just surface sh*t. That may not have been her exact statement, but it was of that nature. I for one am not a person that watches much TV at all. I sure don’t watch the news. When I do get online it’s to have fun and read about things that make me laugh and smile. I’m not ignorant to the fact of the police brutality that’s been going on in this country. In this same breath I can’t give you the specifics on names and cases either. It’s just not an area that I really dwelled on and researched. The other day the same friend and I had an exchange and her response was, “OMG you are finally becoming woke!” If she wants to put it that way, I’ll take that. It’s something I do want to begin to research more and spend a little more time on educating myself about. I defiantly plan to have a podcast episode in the future where I will have someone enlighten me on the Black Lives Matter movement. That is something I’m looking forward to. In the meantime feel free to send me an email with some sources or drop a message in the comment on where I could start.
